Valldemossa is a small village located in a valley in the Sierra Tramuntana mountains just 17 km from the capital of the island - Palma de Mallorca. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Mallorca. It is worth walking through the streets surrounded by stone houses that have been standing here for hundreds of years. Fryderyk Chopin and writer George Sand (Aurore Dudevant) spent the winter of 1838/39 in Valldemossa living in the Carthusian Monastery. Now you can visit the museum with souvenirs of these famous artists.
We drove to Valldemossa from Palma de Mallorca by the Ma-1110 road.
Valldemossa photo from the road
It is worth to park the car in a side road and go to see this panorama - unfortunately the road is narrow and quite busy - you have to be very careful. There are large paid parking lots in the city center. If you are going to spend more time here or go trekking in the mountains as we do, you can also try to park the car a little further from the center for free eg in the vicinity of the police station.
Visiting Valldemossy we started by walking narrow streets among stone houses. You can see a lot of flowers in pots on the streets of Majorca.

Frederic Chopin and George Sand Museum in the Real Cartuja de Valldemossa monastery.
Residents decorate streets and buildings with flowers in pots - it looks very nice. Here you can see the flowers at Carrer de la Rosa (Rose Street).

In the labyrinth of streets and electric cables
The village is not big and it can be visited within an hour or two, but it has many interesting places and it is worth entering various side streets ...
Walking along the streets is a real pleasure especially for photography enthusiasts - all you need to do is get off the main streets and the crowd of tourists disappears. There are many charming places.
Valldemossa is located in the central part of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range and it is worth going to the mountains after visiting the town. You can follow the main route of Majorca GR 221 south to Esporles or north to Deia. We followed another trail leading to the peak of Puig Caragoli (945 m) towards Deia. I marked the entrance to the trail on the map at Carrer Oliveres street.
The route from Valldemossa to Deia
A steep path leads between trees and quickly takes on heights.
There are views of Valldemossa between the trees. There you can see the Church and the Carthusian Monastery in the middle of the photo. In these buildings is the Chopin Museum.
Trekking from Valldemossa to Deia
After a few dozen minutes walk along a rocky path, we reached viewpoint: Mirador de Ses Basses. There is a wide view of the Serra de Tramuntana, Palma de Mallorca and the coast to El Arenal.

We are going to the top of Puig Caragoli
We ate lunch in the mountains and headed towards Puig Caragoli (945 m). Unfortunately, the peaks of the mountains were passing clouds. It got windy, cold and almost nothing was visible at the top.
After a while spent on the top of Puig Caragoli (945 m) in the cloud and a strong wind, we returned to Valldemossa. We went lower, we left the cloud and the visibility was much better.
