The city of Como is a popular holiday resort in the Italian Alps on Lake Como (Lago di Como). We came to Como by train from Milan and after a short walk from the train station through the old town we got to the apartment in a historic house at square by the lake.
Hundreds of lights are reflected in the lake water - a perfect view for night shots. Small tripod and light mirrorless camera: f8, exposure 68 seconds, ISO 200.
There is a modern sculpture (Life Electric) at the end of the pier on the lake dedicated to the physicist Alessandro Volta who was born in Como.
It wasn't warm there but it was calm and cozy in November. We walked the almost empty streets of the old city in the evenings.
Como is beautifully situated on the shores of the lake and surrounded by steep slopes of the Alps. It is called a paradise on earth. Singers and actors (Goerge Clooney, Brad Pitt, Sylvester Stallone) have summer residences here. Como is a very popular resort and there are many hotels, guesthouses and apartments for rent.
If you want to see the city and Lake Como from a bird's eye view, you can buy a tourist flight at Aero Club Como. It is worth flying in the evening - the views are amazing.
Lake Como (Lago di Como) is the third largest lake in Italy. This is very deep, the maximum depth is 425 m - it is the deepest lake in the Alps and one of the deepest in Europe.
There are many monuments and interesting places to visit in Como: the old town, walls, gates, towers, the Gothic cathedral, the church of Sant'Abbodio, the palace of Villa Olmo, the castle of Baradello and the classic temple dedicated to the inventor of the battery Alessandro Volta - Tempio Voltiano.
A beautiful autumn evening in the north of Italy. The sky has kindly cleared up for a few hours - it's worth waiting for such colors and views :-)
There is the castle tower of Castello Baradello on a hill above the city. There is a park around the castle: Parco delle Rimembranze. There are well marked hiking trails and several viewpoints in this park.
November in northern Italy is not very warm (9-14 degrees Celsius), often cloudy and sometimes rainy. But it also has good sides - it is not too hot and it is not crowded :-) Autumn walk around the Parco delle Rimembranze park.
Sculpture of a bull in the square: Piazza del Duomo at the Cathedral of Como (Duomo di Como). Italian language very nice :-)
This town illuminated by the last rays of the setting sun on the mountainside is Rovenna - a district of the city of Cernobbio.
Como is a historic city, surrounded by mountains, at the deepest alpine lake. Everyone will find something for themselves: old town, museums, picturesque lake, mountains, hiking routes, alpine landscapes, the cathedral and churches... We are happy to come back for a long walk in the mountains around the lake.
