Oia in Santorini is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I could write endlessly about the fanciful shapes of buildings stuck to the rocks on the edge of the volcanic caldera, admire the characteristic azure domes of churches ... But to be honest, you have to see it, because no description or even photos will fully show this amazing place. And here I will repeat again as a mantra (as in other famous tourist attractions in Santorini) - be sure to come here in the morning! In later hours, all the charm can be spoiled by thousands of tourists... well, unless someone likes crowds, in this case it is best to show up in the evening to see the famous sunset in Oia.
I arrived in Oia half an hour after sunrise. At this time, I had no problems finding a parking space, so I quickly reached the edge of the caldera and began to admire this architectural wonder.
Everyone knows these blue domes! The photo shows one of the most photographed places in Santorini, the Resurrection of the Lord Holy Orthodox Church.
Early morning is the best time to explore and photograph Oi. There are no people in the streets and there are single people at the viewpoints. There is no need to wait in gigantic lines to take a photo.
Oia is one of those places where no matter which way you look, everywhere is beautifully ...
Most of the houses facing the crater are converted into hotels and apartments.
There you can admire the views at every step as you walk the streets in Oia.
No people ... until it looks a little strange ... and just come here during the day or in the evening and it will be hard to go here ...
It's beautiful everywhere on the edge of the caldera in Oia - it's just a photographer's paradise.
Visiting famous sites in a pandemic has its advantage - there are far fewer people than usual.
When I look at this pot, I have a strange association with a woman who is waiting for her husband ... hands on hips ... and I hear: "what time are you coming back?" :-) but it's just my strange imagination ...
Santorini is a very windy island. No wonder there were over 70 windmills here. Today some of them are converted into apartments. The photo shows one of the most famous - the windmill in Oia. Here you can book accommodation in one of the windmills: The Sunset Windmill Lioyerma Windmill Apt & Pool Stunning Windmill House.
Houses, stairs, walls, flowers, pots, umbrellas, sun loungers, swimming pools, doors, windows, chapels, sea, sky, rocks... Architecture madness framed by color and nature.
From the first time I saw this magical place a few years ago, I always wanted to come back here and stay longer ... and now, after a few days of staying, I still can't get enough of these views ...
Ammoudi is a small but charming harbor with a very small rocky beach below Oia. There are several good restaurants on the waterfront serving delicious seafood.
The Oi panorama from the ruins of the Venetian castle is perhaps the most famous sight of Santorini. Probably everyone who visited this beautiful place has such a photo.
Evening panorama of the buildings on the edge of the caldera ... The view is so mesmerizing that it's hard to move...
And again the same shot only at night ... For photography enthusiasts, Oia is a real paradise. Don't forget to charge the camera battery. It is also worth taking an additional memory card with you, just in case.
A delightful mosaic of colors and shapes. This place has the power of attraction and you have to be careful not to get addicted to it :-) I wasn't ....
