I always wanted to fly. I dreamed to fly since i was a child. Free floating in the air reminded me of freedom - I have always admired the birds and their ability to fly. The world in advance seems completely different: distant, calm, quiet, trouble-free... When the drones became so small that they could be folded and taken to a small backpack, I decided to try to fly and see the ground from a different perspective... and that is how my learning to fly began!
I present the first few shots from the drone below and describe how I started my adventure with DJI Mavic Air. I will write a few sentences next to photos how to prepare equipment, where to go on the first flights and what should be done to stay safe. Mavic Air is like a tiny drone, but the propellers spin very quickly and if they are not careful, they can hurt you. This is not a toy.
After unpacking the drone you will not fly immediately. You must be patient - before you go you need to prepare yourself theoretically, install the application on your phone, update the drone and controller software, calibrate the compass, and most importantly: learn the regulations and flight zones.
Shooting a drone is a completely new photograph for me. We got an extra dimension in which we can move and the opportunity to show the world of places for people inaccessible. Such a substitute for being a bird and freedom of flying!
I recommend browsing YouTube tutorials. There are a lot of videos about drones for beginners, tests and advices. This is a quick way to learn everything about using the application and controlling the drone.
If you want to fly the drone in winter, first of all, do not let the battery and the drone cool down before take-off. The batteries should be at least 15 degrees Celsius, so it is worth keeping them, for example, in an inner jacket pocket.
Sometimes it is enough to fly even a few or several meters up and the view changes completely. Even the flat terrain of Żuławy looks completely different.

The main thing is not to fly in no-fly areas and strong winds. I recommend you to install on your phone applications that show flight zones and weather with geomagnetic disturbances (eg UAV Forecast).
The world when we look at it from a different perspective appears in a new form ... sometimes as abstract pictures ... we seem to know it all very well, we have been to this place many times but we have never seen it from above - it's like discovering the same places again.
When photographing by drone, you do not have to fly very high. Changing the perspective is enough, a few or a dozen meters up, and we have a completely new view. In the photo: Small Lake in a beech forest, Mierzeszyn Poland.
There is a CMOS sensor with 4x3 format and size 12 MP in Mavic Air. The pictures are of good quality as there is good light and you set ISO 100. There is a historic city Chełmno in the photo. More photos from DJI Mavic Air drone you can see in galleries: Kashubian Lake District and Masurian Lakeland.
I noticed that drones have such an interesting property - they accelerate the time when flying :-) especially when the battery ends ... You have to be careful not to fly too far and make it back, because 20 minutes of flight passes so quickly.
Beech and spruce forest in early spring seen from above - an interesting abstract view.
I went to the field on my first flight - so that in the open space with good visibility and almost no wind, focus on learning to control the drone. It is a good idea to do some starts and landings at the beginning.
The battery in Mavic Air is enough for about 20 minutes of flight - you do not even know how fast this time passes - so at the beginning I recommend not to do drone range tests. Besides the world from above it looks completely different and not have to fly far to see the interesting abstraction.
