Hel city at the beginning of Poland amazed me with its progressive action :-) The church and military facilities have been turned into museums and tourist attractions - bravo Hel. You can get here by bus line No. 666 3 :-) I like this Hel!
Hel is a small port city located at the end of the Hel Peninsula at the Puck Bay. The town surrounded by the sea, beaches and pine forest has a perfect location for a tourist resort.
What is worth seeing in Hel?
There are many tourist attractions in Hel: beaches, dunes, harbor, trekking routes, bicycle routes, Fisheries Museum, Seal Center, House of Porpoise, Lighthouse, Museum of Hel's Railway, Museum of Coastal Defense and fortifications and bunkers in the forests along the coast.
A walk in the woods and on the beach - this is how we started a visit to Hel.
View from the promenade at Hel
The end of the Hel Peninsula is the farthest place where the waters of the bay mix with the Baltic Sea. Sometimes there are seals on this beach. A promenade with boards informing about the local fauna and flora is built along the shore.
The color of the water in the Baltic Sea was amazing - a bit like a sea rainbow! The sand on Hel's beaches is white, very fine and delicate. Great place for a long walk on the endless beach.
There are colorful fishing boats, tourist boats, motor yachts and sailboats in the port and marina.
You can sail to Hel by a yacht or a tourist ship from Gdansk, Sopot or Gdynia.
If you like fishing, one of the biggest attractions may be a sea fishing trip for cod or salmon. You can catch really big fishes!
There is the Fisheries Museum in the historic post-evangelical church of Saints Peter and Paul from the 15th century, near the port in Hel.
You can find out on Sunday in the church many interesting things: the history of the Hel Peninsula, fishery, you can see real fishing boats, models of ships and sailing ships, you can feel on the simulator like a boat flowing through the waves or pull a net full of fish and see the city from above: -)
You can go to the tower in the museum and see the city from above. There you can see the Seal Sanctuary (Sealarium) by the promenade - this is our next tourist attraction of Hel.
You can see gray seals swimming in pools and watch a very interesting film and exhibition in the museum.
Beach and Seaside Boulevard in the center of Hel. See a spherical photo of the city.
A walk along the seashore at sunset ... if you like such romantic things, Hel is perfect for this. A photo from the seaside boulevard in Hel.
Hel because of its unique location is also a strategic point. Therefore, for many years it was in a large part a military area.
There are attractions for military enthusiasts: bunkers, shelters, anti-aircraft batteries, artillery posts, fire control towers and fortifications. The Helski Military Trail is about 10 km long, it is well-marked and you can find information boards with a description of fortifications and maps.
Historic military fortifications
To the Swede Mountain (Szwedzka Górka), 19 m high you can follow the military route. There are many bunkers and fortifications from World War II on the hills around the historic lighthouse.
The city center and ul. Wiejska - you can walk, shop, buy souvenirs and eat delicious fresh fish in one of the many stylish restaurants.
Lighthouse with a height of over 40 m at the end of the Hel Peninsula. The lighthouse is open to visitors in the summer season.
