Hel city at the beginning of Poland amazed me with its progressive action :-) The church and military facilities have been turned into museums and tourist attractions - bravo Hel. You can get here by bus line No. 666 3 :-) I like this Hel!
Hel is a small port city located at the end of the Hel Peninsula at the Puck Bay. The town surrounded by the sea, beaches and pine forest has a perfect location for a tourist resort.
What is worth seeing in Hel?
There are many tourist attractions in Hel: beaches, dunes, harbor, trekking routes, bicycle routes, Fisheries Museum, Seal Center, House of Porpoise, Lighthouse, Museum of Hel's Railway, Museum of Coastal Defense and fortifications and bunkers in the forests along the coast.
A walk in the woods and on the beach - this is how we started a visit to Hel.
The end of the Hel Peninsula is the farthest place where the waters of the bay mix with the Baltic Sea. Sometimes there are seals on this beach. A promenade with boards informing about the local fauna and flora is built along the shore.
The color of the water in the Baltic Sea was amazing - a bit like a sea rainbow! The sand on Hel's beaches is white, very fine and delicate. Great place for a long walk on the endless beach.
There are colorful fishing boats, tourist boats, motor yachts and sailboats in the port and marina.
If you like fishing, one of the biggest attractions may be a sea fishing trip for cod or salmon. You can catch really big fishes!
There are tourist boats moored at the entrance to the port. On these ships you can take a cruise on the Baltic Sea to see Hel and the peninsula from the water side. There you can listen to interesting sea stories and admire amazing views during the cruise.
There is the Fisheries Museum in the historic post-evangelical church of Saints Peter and Paul from the 15th century, near the port in Hel.
You can find out on Sunday in the church many interesting things: the history of the Hel Peninsula, fishery, you can see real fishing boats, models of ships and sailing ships, you can feel on the simulator like a boat flowing through the waves or pull a net full of fish and see the city from above: -)
You can go to the tower in the museum and see the city from above. There you can see the Seal Sanctuary (Sealarium) by the promenade - this is our next tourist attraction of Hel.
You can see gray seals swimming in pools and watch a very interesting film and exhibition in the museum.
Beach and Seaside Boulevard in the center of Hel. See a spherical photo of the city.
The Neptune statue on the Seaside Boulevard (Bulwar Nadmorski) in Hel is a copy of the bronze sculpture from the Neptune Fountain in Bologna by Jean de Boulogne. This marble Neptune is 3.4 meters high and is the largest stone sculpture of the god Neptune in the world.
A walk along the seashore at sunset ... if you like such romantic things, Hel is perfect for this. A photo from the seaside boulevard in Hel.
Hel because of its unique location is also a strategic point. Therefore, for many years it was in a large part a military area.
There are attractions for military enthusiasts: bunkers, shelters, anti-aircraft batteries, artillery posts, fire control towers and fortifications. The Helski Military Trail is about 10 km long, it is well-marked and you can find information boards with a description of fortifications and maps.
To the Swede Mountain (Szwedzka Górka), 19 m high you can follow the military route. There are many bunkers and fortifications from World War II on the hills around the historic lighthouse.
The city center and ul. Wiejska - you can walk, shop, buy souvenirs and eat delicious fresh fish in one of the many stylish restaurants.
Lighthouse with a height of over 40 m at the end of the Hel Peninsula. The lighthouse is open to visitors in the summer season.
We also visited Hel in the fall. The October weekend on the Hel Peninsula is a great idea to relax in peace.
View of the beach in the city of Hel. It is a not very wide sandy beach on the Bay of Gdańsk. There is the Seaside Boulevard, the port, numerous pubs and restaurants and a seal sanctuary by the beach.
Hel and other places on the Hel Peninsula are one of the most-chosen places for holidays by the sea. And no wonder because the beaches here are amazing. There are also great conditions for water sports from the side of the Bay of Gdańsk.
Aerial view of the marina in Hel. The marina is located in the Fishing Port near the end of the Hel Peninsula. There are 35 berths in the marina for tourist yachts at the floating docks and at the quay.
Hel is also an excellent port for sea sailing. From here you can sail to the Tri-City, the Bay of Gdańsk, Puck or the Baltic Sea.
Hel is an ideal place for cycling, especially outside the main tourist season when there are not too many tourists. There are many paths in the woods and signposted routes that you can cycle quickly and effortlessly.
You can follow the R10 bike route across the peninsula from Hel to Władysławowo (about 35 kilometers) and further along the coast to Świnoujście. However, I recommend that you turn a bit into the forest and ride tourist and military routes. These routes are very well marked and lead to interesting military monuments and beautiful viewpoints.
A lonely sail on the endless sea and the golden sands of the beach lit by the setting sun - amazing views at the beginning of Poland.
Hel is also a very good place to admire the sunset over the Bay of Gdańsk.
You can buy our photos from Hel and use them as wall prints, photo wallpapers, illustrations in magazines, calendars, folders, advertisements, graphics on websites. You can see more photos from this beautiful place in the galleries: Hel Peninsula and Go to Hel.
