We decided to go to the highest peak of Sudety - Śnieżka on a beautiful September day. We went from Karpacz (Biała Jar) by the red trail through the Łomniczki Kocioł and the Silesian House Mountain Chalet to Śnieżka. From the top, continue along the red trail through Czarna Kopa to Sowia Przełęcz. We went to Karpacz along the black trail, and we returned to the White Jar along the green trail. A very scenic route - distance: 17.5 km; walk time 6:15; total approach: 1055 meters; total descends 1063 meters.
Entry to the red trail in the Karkonowski National Park and of course the admission fee ... I am not an enthusiast of such a solution to put money on every path and charge for entering the forest ...
Post-glacial cirque - Kociol Lomniczki
Cirque under Sniezka (Kociol Lomniczki) - the deepest post-glacial cirque in the Giant Mountains.
Sniezka Meteorological Observatory
This amazing building at the top is not a hostel, it is: Meteorological Observatory (named after Tadeusz Hołdys) at the summit of Śnieżka.
The highest peak of the Czech Republic
According to the latest measurements, Śnieżka has 1603 m and is the highest peak in the Sudetes. It is also the highest peak of the Czech Republic.
I recommend the red trail from Karpacz through Kocioł Łomniczki to Śnieżka - beautiful views and few people.
Symbolic Mountaineers' Cemetery at the red trail to Śnieżka in the Sudety Mountains.
View of Śnieżka from the vicinity of the Dom Śląski mountain shelter. This photo clearly shows the Śnieżka Death Couloir (Rynna Śmierci) - a gully that cuts through the Jubilee Route leading to the Łomniczka Cirque. It starts near the observatory building at the summit and is visible as a distinct line running diagonally to the left. This is a very dangerous place, especially in winter when the slopes of Śnieżka are covered with ice and snow. A fall near the summit can result in a slide down to the Łomniczka Cirque.
Mountain shelter Silesian House
Silesian House (Dom Śląski) - a large mountain shelter located at 1,400 meters above sea level, on the Polish-Czech border, at the foot of Śnieżka.
An interesting building on the top of Sněžka (Śnieżka), which looks like a UFO, is a High Mountain Meteorological Observatory.
A view from the Śnieżka peak to Karpacz and the Jeleniogórska Valley. See also: photos of Karpacz.
According to the latest measurements, Śnieżka's altitude is 1603 m above sea level. Until recently, 1602 M. a. s. l. were written on maps.
We went along the red trail through the Czarny Grzbiet (Black Ridge) towards the east from the summit.
We went along the black trail from the Sowia Przełęcz (Owl Pass) to Karpacz.
It was a great day - mountains, nature, amazing landscapes and beautiful weather - what more could you want?
