We arrived in Starogard Gdański in the evening after spending the day cycling along the Kociewie trails. It was a beautiful summer day – the sun, light clouds, and windless weather created perfect conditions for drone flying. In such soft light, the city looked magnificent. The city, with its beautiful market square, town hall, and restored tenement houses, looks impressive from a bird’s-eye view.
If you like the aerial views I captured in Starogard Gdański, I have good news - you can purchase my photos as digital photo files - perfect for use in calendars, wallpapers, advertisements, newspapers, postcards, and websites. Ideal for businesses and individuals seeking professional images.

St. Matthew's Church

St. Matthew's Church is one of the oldest churches in Starogard Gdański. It was built in the 14th century when Teodot of Florence founded the town. It is said that the church was built on the site of a pagan temple dedicated to Swarog, and its stone font was made from a huge statue of this Slavic god. In 2009, to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Starogard, the church underwent a comprehensive restoration. The roof was renewed, the walls were repaired, and the interior of the church was restored.

Market Square in Starogard Gdański

Market Square in Starogard Gdański

The Market Square in Starogard Gdański is one of the oldest and most recognizable places in the city. Its history dates back to the 13th century, and in 1305, after the sale of the village to the Teutonic Knights, the construction of a fortified settlement began, with the market square becoming its heart. The market measures 107 m × 107 m, making it one of the largest medieval squares in Poland. Following a fire in 1792, most of the town's buildings were destroyed, but they were rebuilt on medieval foundations, with the current structures dating back to the 19th century. During the market's renovation in 2018, stone foundations of medieval wells were discovered, which, after reconstruction, became one of the market's tourist attractions. Today, the market is a vibrant place where visitors can spend time in cafés, restaurants, shops, and by the fountains.

The Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria in Starogard Gdański has a rich history dating back to 1470. Initially, it was a smaller temple located closer to the Wierzyca River. In 1557, thanks to the decision of King Sigismund II Augustus, the church became the property of the Evangelicals, who used it until 1945. After the great fire of 1792, the church was rebuilt between 1799 and 1802. Its tower was raised in 1872, and a statue of Christ the Savior was placed at its top. The church was listed as a historical monument in 2003.

In the center of Starogard Gdański, around the market square, there is a no-fly zone due to the nearby court and prison. If you want to fly in this area, you need to unlock the zone on the DJI website, but you cannot enter the zones that directly cover the court and prison buildings. After unlocking the rest of the area, you can safely fly your drone. Remember to select the appropriate zone in the control app and activate it before launching the drone – without this, the drone won't take off.
