Węgorzewo is one of the places we visit regularly, as we have often rented yachts from here, and now it is where our boat is moored, which we use to explore the Mazurian lakes. This town, located at the northern tip of the Great Masurian Lakes, is not only a key spot for sailors but also a destination rich in tourist attractions. Situated between two lakes, Mamry and Święcajty, it offers excellent conditions for water sports, while its beaches provide the perfect setting for family relaxation.
The modern Ekomarina in Węgorzewo is a unique port located by the Węgorapa River, perfect for sailors and tourists. It offers mooring spots for yachts, access to utilities, and full sanitary facilities. The port building houses a tourist information point, a café, a bike rental service, and a viewing terrace. From the port, excursion boats of Żegluga Mazurska depart, allowing visitors to sail, for example, to Giżycko.
The Węgorzewo Canal is a picturesque waterway, 920 meters long, connecting the Węgorapa River to the Mamry Lakes. The bike path running alongside the canal is a popular spot for cyclists and walkers. In the area, beavers live, and various bird species can be spotted, including gray herons, bitterns, common mergansers, red-necked grebes, cranes, and kites.
In the center of Węgorzewo, there are ports accessible via the Węgorzewski Canal. These include Port Keja, one of the most popular in the region, located near the town and Lake Mamry. Węgorzewo also features Ekomarina, Port Mamry, and Port ZHP Węgorzewo. On the other hand, near Lake Święcajty, there are Port Piękny Brzeg and Przystań ŻOS Róża Wiatrów, which offer convenient docks and modern amenities.
Marina Keja in Węgorzewo is one of the main ports on Lake Mamry and in Węgorzewo, known for its convenient location in the city center. It can be accessed via the Węgorzewski Canal from Lake Mamry. The marina has a tavern, a grocery store, a chandlery, an ATM, and a motorboat service. There is also a gas station directly by the port.

In Węgorzewo, by Lake Święcajty, there are many attractions for children. The resort features a water park with trampolines, slides, and a climbing wall. The lake has shallow water, perfect for fun and play. On the resort grounds, children can enjoy a playground with swings and a mini zipline. The area also offers bike tours and a wide range of water sports, including kayaking, paddle boating, and motorboats. It's an ideal place for an active family holiday. We arrived there by yacht and moored at the quay - the kids were thrilled.
Węgorzewo has two popular beaches. The Mamry Municipal Beach, located on Lake Mamry, offers a supervised swimming area with designated zones for swimmers of varying skill levels. The beach also features volleyball courts and sanitary facilities, including changing rooms and toilets. The second beach is located on Lake Święcajty, within the Piękny Brzeg resort. It provides a children's playground, a volleyball court, a tavern, and a rental service for water equipment, including pedal boats, kayaks, and boats. Additionally, the beach has a water park with a trampoline and climbing wall.
Tourist attractions in Węgorzewo
Węgorzewo is a great place for active recreation. The town offers many attractions for nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts. You can rent kayaks, pedal boats, or motorboats. There are also cycling routes that lead through picturesque areas. The area is also perfect for fishing, especially near Lake Mamry and Lake Święcajty. Węgorzewo is also an ideal spot for sightseeing – the Teutonic Castle, the Ethnographic Park, and the Museum of Railway Traditions are worth visiting. Nearby, you can also explore the German bunkers in Mamerki. If you're interested in World War II history, you can take a longer trip to Gierłoż, where the Wolf's Lair - the main headquarters of Adolf Hitler from 1941 to 1944 - is located. I like to watch the world from a bird's-eye view. The shorelines of lakes and marinas with piers and moored yachts look especially interesting.
