The May Day Weekend in Mielno: A Bird's Eye View The weather forecast for the May Day weekend was promising, so we decided to spend it in Poland. I love visiting seaside resorts outside of the season to enjoy the peace and quiet away from the summer crowds. Additionally, the Baltic Sea in spring has an incredible color, and the water is crystal clear without any algae or blue-green algae. We were a bit worried that we might have trouble finding decent accommodation in Mielno for the first May Day weekend, especially since we waited almost until the last minute to book. However, a few days before our trip, we went on Booking.com and were pleasantly surprised to find a wide range of options. This gave us hope for a relaxing few days in this popular resort. All that was left was to pack the drone, bikes, and a few essentials and head west. Upon arrival, it turned out that our intuition was right. Mielno greeted us with beautiful weather and few tourists. I invite you to view the bird's-eye-view photos that capture the beauty of this seaside resort in spring. See Mielno from a completely different perspective and experience the magic of the May Day weekend on the Baltic Sea.

Fishing boats in Mielno

Fishing boats in Mielno

In Unieście, from early morning, the fishing harbor bustles with life, where you can admire returning fishing boats and buy freshly caught fish straight from the deck. Nearby the beach, there are numerous fryers and smokehouses where you can taste delicious dishes of smoked, fried, and grilled fish. I always admire these small boats setting out to sea and feel great respect for the fishermen who head out into the wide ocean at night. Their courage and determination are admirable, and their hard work is often underappreciated in today's times.

The Monuments in Mielno

The Monuments in Mielno

The oldest monument in Mielno is the Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, built in the 15th century. It is a Gothic church located on a small hill about 750 meters from the Baltic Sea. The single-nave church, built of brick and stone, impresses with its massiveness, simplicity and severity. Around the church there are remains of a moat, which may indicate its former defensive function of this impressive building.
Other interesting historical places are the remains of German bunkers, which were built in 1940-1941 to defend the Baltic coast. Two bunkers have survived to this day, 200 meters apart, which can be visited on foot or by bike, following the red tourist trail. These bunkers, made of 50 cm thick concrete, are 11 meters by 7 meters and have two windows, but no entrance hole. They are an interesting element of the history of Mielno and are eagerly visited by tourists.

Mielno from a drone

Mielno from a drone

Viewing Mielno from a drone perspective is a fascinating experience. The absence of military airspace restrictions allows for unrestricted flights, but one must beware of advertising planes, paragliders, and other hobbyist flyers who may appear in the air above the city or beach.

Mielno from a bird's-eye view

Mielno from a bird's-eye view

From a bird's-eye view, Mielno reveals itself in all its splendor, like a treasure hidden between the sea and Lake Jamno. From this perspective, you can clearly see the sandbar that separates these two bodies of water. A large part of the city lies precisely on this narrow strip of land. I love admiring such places from above because only from a height, for example, 100 meters up, can you see a completely different landscape, observe details and relationships that escape our notice from the ground.

The eastern boundary of the district (Unieście) is marked by the Jamieński Nurt canal. The area is known for its picturesque beach, fishing boats pulled up on the shore, and numerous fish smokehouses and fryers offering freshly caught seafood dishes.

Bird's eye view of Unieście - fishing port, beach and a group of people exercising on the beach. When flying a drone in places like this, you should be especially careful. Seagulls, these large birds, do not like drones, especially when they approach their nests and nesting sites. Therefore, it is always necessary to carefully observe their behavior during the flight. If you notice that seagulls are starting to take an interest in the drone, it is best to move away quickly. In such situations, I always switch the controller to sports mode (S) and fly away.
