The weather in Poland for the May holiday weekend was predicted to be perfect - sunny, warm, no rain, and not too windy. So, we decided to visit a new place, ride our bikes, and fly our drone. Those who follow our blog know that we love nature, especially lakes, the sea, and mountains. Since there was still snow in the mountains and we expected crowds of tourists, we chose the sea and lakes. In the first part of the week, we visited Mielno, Łazy, Chłopy, Sarbinowo, and Gąski. In the second part of the holiday, we decided to visit the lakes in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Why there? First, we had visited the Masuria, Kashubia, and Iława Lake District many times. Second, we had never been to the Drawsko Lake District. Third, it was very close from Mielno. We didn't know this region, so I sat down with a map and started looking for an interesting place. We chose Szczecinek. Why Szczecinek? It's a town surrounded by forests, located by a large lake with many bike trails. I also checked the airspace zones to ensure we could fly our drone without any major issues. For this reason, we ruled out the areas around Czaplinek and Drawsko Pomorskie. And Szczecinek turned out to be a perfect choice.
Szczecinek - tourist attractions
Szczecinek offers numerous tourist attractions that attract lovers of history, nature, and active recreation. One of the main points of interest is the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes, picturesquely located on the shores of Lake Trzesiecko, where exhibitions and cultural events are held. The city is also proud of its Municipal Park, full of green paths and ponds, ideal for walking and relaxation. For water sports enthusiasts, the lakes of Szczecinek provide excellent conditions for sailing, kayaking, fishing, and water skiing on a special tow. Additionally, numerous cycling and hiking trails encourage exploring the charming corners of the region in the fresh air. Szczecinek is a place that combines the richness of culture and nature, offering something for everyone.
The Town Hall in Szczecinek is located at Plac Wolności 13. This neo-Gothic, two-story building with numerous neo-Romanesque elements and large, characteristic windows was erected in 1852. It was constructed from red brick, and its hipped roof is covered with red tiles.
Szczecinek - a city by the lake
Szczecinek, seen from above, captivates with its charm. The photo shows the Mariacki Church and the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes, surrounded by the greenery of parks. The picturesque lakes harmoniously blend with the urban landscape, creating a beautiful view full of nature and architecture.
View from above of the Market Square in Szczecinek
This is another market square that I photographed in this way. The top-down drone photo shows Plac Wolności in all its splendor. You can see a well-kept space, a large fountain, interesting seating areas, and even the city coat of arms in front of the town hall and the roofs of the tenement houses.
The castle in Szczecinek, picturesquely located by Lake Trzesiecko, is not only a historic site with a rich history but also a place where you can taste local cuisine. The "Strefa Smaku Zamek" restaurant operates within the castle grounds, and we ate there twice because the dishes were excellent. Additionally, the views from the terrace over the lake and park are an added bonus.
The Municipal Park in Szczecinek is one of the most picturesque places in the city, serving as a true oasis of peace and greenery. It stretches over several hectares and offers ideal conditions for relaxation, recreation, and outdoor strolls. It is characterized by well-maintained paths, rich tree stands, and colorful flowerbeds that change with the seasons. The park features numerous benches, picnic areas, and charming bridges over the park ponds, adding to the charm of the entire space. Safe and modern playgrounds have been prepared for children, and enthusiasts of active leisure can enjoy designated bike paths and running areas. The Municipal Park in Szczecinek is also a venue for many cultural events and festivals, making it an important point on the city map, attracting both residents and tourists.
Aerial view of the Town Square and City Hall. During the May holiday, the city wasn’t crowded, so it was easy to enjoy all the attractions, although there were queues at the Amore Mio ice cream shop on 1 Maja Street - but that's no surprise since the ice cream there is amazing!
Trzesiecko Lake is a ribbon lake located in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the city of Szczecinek, at the border of the Drawsko and Szczecinek Lake Districts. The lake is 5.6 km long, has a maximum width of 0.9 km, an average depth of 5.4 m, and a maximum depth of nearly 12 m. Along the city shore stretches a historic city park, while on the other side lies the Klasztorny Forest and part of a nature and forest trail. A marked blue bike trail circles the lake, and a water tram operates on its waters. In July 2008, a 1080-meter-long water ski lift was opened near the city beach, allowing speeds of up to 58 km/h.
Beaches and swimming areas in Szczecinek
The beaches and bathing areas in Szczecinek are true gems for lovers of water pleasures and relaxation by the lake. Lake Trzesiecko is home to many beaches and bathing areas: the city beach, near the castle, near the fishing station, on Mouse Island (Mysia Wyspa), Trzesieka beach, and at Świątki. The photo shows the beach, pier, and bathing area at Świątki.
Sunny Pier is a charming spot in the park by the lake, offering loungers for relaxation and admiring the beauty of the surroundings. Additionally, the city park in Szczecinek entices with numerous benches, playgrounds for children, dog runs, and other attractions such as walking paths, sports fields, cafes, bars, and restaurants. It's the perfect place for a family picnic or an afternoon stroll.
The historic building of the Oskar Kolberg First and Second Degree Music School at 3 Maja Street 2 in Szczecinek is an eclectic style edifice constructed in 1902. The brick facade, adorned with rich decorations and a distinctive clock tower, gives it a unique character. Looking at its grand brick facade, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being transported into the magical world of Harry Potter. This building could certainly serve as a mini Hogwarts.
Szczecinek is a paradise for cyclists. The entire city is covered with a dense network of bike paths, making it easy to get around on two wheels. Bike racks are available at every turn, making parking extremely convenient. The trails are well-marked, and even in the forest, you can find map boards in many places to help with navigation. The photo shows historic tenement houses on Bohaterów Warszawy Street.
Lake Trzesiecko in Szczecinek is a picturesque body of water, serving as the heart of the city and a favorite relaxation spot for residents and tourists. Perfect for sailing, kayaking, and fishing, it also offers clean beaches and bathing areas. Surrounded by parks and cycling paths, the lake invites to active leisure in nature. Around the lake, there is a great cycling route of about 14 kilometers, leading through parks and forests - highly recommended!
The Church of St. Mary, also known as the Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located at 3 Maja 1a Street. In the drone photo, you can clearly see how the church tower, towering at 78 meters, dominates over the city.
Szczecinek is a very beautiful and green city situated between lakes and surrounded by forests. We were pleasantly surprised by the well-prepared tourist infrastructure: trails, bike routes, parks, benches, beaches, swimming areas, bars, and restaurants.

Zachód housing estate, Szczecinek
A drone photo with a view of the Zachód housing estate just before sunset. I lived in a district with blocks of flats in Gdynia for 20 years, and I think that's why I have a fondness for such places.
Center of Sport and Recreation
The Sports and Recreation Center in Szczecinek actively promotes physical culture, offering sports facilities and organizing events. We have facilities for various disciplines, including 6 sports and entertainment halls, an athletics hall with a track, 2 fields with artificial turf, a city stadium with natural grass and training fields, as well as beach volleyball courts. The total recreational and sports area covers about 10 hectares. In the photo on the right, you can see the Czesław Lis City Stadium. It is a modern facility located in the City Park by Lake Trzesiecko, used for football matches and sports-recreational events.
The panorama of Szczecinek captured by a drone shows the picturesque city with its focal point - the Market Square and the impressive Town Hall. The silvery waters of Lake Trzesiecko are also visible, surrounded by green parks and forests.
Around Szczecinek, there are many interesting cycling routes - one of them, numbered TR13, leads to Lake Spore. This place offers not only beautiful views but also the opportunity to relax on the beach and swim in the clean lake. Additionally, in the vicinity of Szczecinek, there are many other cycling routes of varying difficulty and length, allowing for exploration of nearby attractions.
